Whenever I finish a story on my webcomic, I like to give myself a breather. This typically takes the form of non- story art after… “posters” etc. So far I haven’t missed an update in three years.
In terms of quality, it may lead to something I’m not terribly happy with. I have a couple of recent pages like that, usually penciled, inked and colored the day before posting. I feel my best work comes from a period where I have what they call a “buffer” in the postings. I will often tweak the page in the interim between scheduling the entry in wordpress and when the comic posts. The tweaks could take the form of redrawing a hand, or completely redoing a panel I’m not happy with.
Long story short, the period after a story is usually intended to restore my comic buffer, and therefore, the balance of the universe.
Here’s the inked art for my most recent entry. (for the finished version, see it here) Click the image to see it larger.
This art was inked with a #2 brush and micron pens. I go back and forth between the brush and pens.
it’s an eternal struggle. Okay… not really. But both have their positives and negatives.
